Hemingway Would Be Proud

February 19, 2014
The title of this blog is “The Person I am Tonight” which is from a quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel Tender is the Night. The quote goes like this:

“I don’t ask you to love me always like this, but I ask you to remember. Somewhere inside me there’ll always be the person I am tonight.”

– F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tender is the Night

I chose this quote because I thought it was beautiful and moving and all that lovely stuff. BUT when contemplating the romantic egotism that is Fitzgerald, I came across a gem.
http://www.hemingwayapp.com is a site that allows you to type in things you are working on and get some grammatical feedback on the style in order to make your writing something Hemingway would be proud of. But instead of using it seriously, which I might actually end up doing too, I typed in the passage this is associated with and other work by Fitzgerald, then some Gertrude Stein, and some of Hemingway’s own work. I encourage you to do the same, lit nerd friends. It’s a giggle.
C’mon don’t you want his advice?
