First Friday at the ICA

April 7, 2014

Dear Reader,

Last Friday was First Friday at the Institute of Contemporary Art here in Boston. I had never been, so it was the perfect introduction to the museum. There was a performance by the Boston Ballet (which is what initially drew me), talks about certain art installations, drinks, a DJ, and a really awkward attempted dance party. All of which was just screaming my name.First Friday at the ICA- The Person I Am Tonight

The whole experience was beyond fun. Everyone was dressed very classily (one guy was even wearing a tux) and the ballet was the highlight of the whole evening. The ballet was comprised of five dancers and featured music from Yann Tierson (one of my absolutement favorites) among others. We sat very close to the stage, closer than I had ever been, and basically just watched rapt and absorbed and impressed.

This is a still of a video installation in which models at a MAC photoshoot were asked to spit and lick this multicolored goo. It is both gross and totally absorbing and it goes on forever. We stood and watched it for at least ten minutes. Also her lipstick stays on perfectly the whole time…

We explored the rest of the museum, which is not very large but is full of really unique pieces, before heading out into the pouring rain. My friends and I were hungry and a little bedraggled from the cold wet night so we decided to grab a drink and a bite to eat at Lucky’s Lounge, a Sinatra-esque bar that has the best menu I have seen since I came to Boston. Seriously. It is reasonably priced and crazy delicious. I had mini corn dogs. Blown away 🙂

Check out the ICA. I promise you will have a really interesting and fun time. (Check out the Nick Cave exhibit and the William Kentridge especially).
